This is Dalila, my housemate.
Dalila came to Villa el Salvador from a village in the north, in the mountains, to work as the nanny for the little boy who lives here. With a little help and support form the Arenas family she is now studying to become a nurse. She works in the house and takes care of the boy during the day and studies at night. She has not been home in four years, as it is both too expensive for her and also a 16 hour trip in a crowded bus. But as her mother is ill, she is now making the trip home for a week. There is no electricity in her parents’ village. Needless to say, they have no computers, no internet. Here in Villa Dalila works on the computers at the “Instituto” where she studies.
